Odyssey Marine Exploration

Three of the beautiful coins recovered from the shipwreck of the SS Republic. To date, gold Coronet Head 20 Dollar Double Eagles, 10 Dollar Eagles and silver Seated Liberty Half Dollars have been recovered during the archaeological excavation of the site. The Republic was a sidewheel steamer that sank in 1865 with a large cargo of coins. Odyssey Marine Exploration discovered the shipwreck in the summer of 2003 and began the archaeological excavation in November of 2003. The shipwreck site lies approximately 1700 feet below the surface of the Atlantic.
